Jewelry Care & Maintenance
You love your beautiful bling—learn how to take care of it so your unique pieces continue to shine, softly for a lifetime. Follow this handy guide to expert ring and gemstone maintenance:
✦ 1. When to Take It Off
Believe it or not, caring for your custom jewelry occasionally means taking it off, especially during the following activities:
Sports & Gym Sessions: Holding a tennis racket tightly is particularly harmful to a ring with stones going all the way around—especially if you're left-handed. Lifting weights at the gym with your ring on can be highly hazardous; you wouldn't want a heavy dumbbell making hard contact with your stone.
Gardening & Heavy Yard Work: Doing heavy manual work outdoors increases the risk of chipping your stones or knocking the intricate settings loose.
House Cleaning & Washing Up: Harsh chemical soaps, bleach, or everyday cleansers can soil and damage the metals. For personalized or highly custom photo rings, it is always a good idea to take them off while washing your hands to preserve their clarity.
✦ 2. Keep It Free From Cosmetics
Lotion, Sunscreen, and Perfume: These daily products can quickly gunk up your KESONLY Eco-Brilliant Stone, leave a stubborn film, and even etch or dull colored gemstones. Make it a rule to remove your jewelry before applying any beauty products, and let your skin dry completely before putting your jewelry back on.
✦ 3. Kitchen, Water & Pool Warnings
Be Careful in the Kitchen: Mixing cookie dough, turkey loaf, or piecrust with your fingers is fun, but these dense foods can leave a thick film on your ring and drastically affect its brilliant luster.
Never Swim in the Ocean: Cold ocean water shrinks your fingers just enough to let a ring slip off completely unnoticed. If you lose your custom token of love in the deep blue sea, you won't be seeing it again!
Avoid Swimming Pools & Spas: Chlorinated water reacts aggressively with the metals found in jewelry, causing rapid color changes and even long-term structural damage. Always leave your jewelry in a safe place before diving in.
Remove Jewelry Before Bathing: Soap, body washes, and shampoos cause a dull, dingy film to form over metals and stones. Preventing this film immediately reduces the need for frequent servicing and deep cleaning.
✦ 4. Have Your Setting Checked Regularly
To ensure your custom piece remains secure, we highly recommend having your setting checked by a local professional jeweler every six months to make sure no prongs or stones have become loose over time.
✦ 5. How to Clean Your KESONLY Jewelry at Home
While professional cleanings are fantastic, you can easily restore the magical fire of your KESONLY Eco-Brilliant Stone at home using these simple steps:
✦ The Gentle Soap Method
KESONLY suggests using a mild, gentle dish detergent to clean lotion or oil buildup from the bottom of the mounting. Simply scrub the top and bottom gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinse thoroughly several times in hot water.
✦ The Deep Shine Soak (For Extra Sparkle)
Soak your ring in a small bowl of ammonia diluted with three times the amount of water. Gently brush the top and bottom of the mounting with a soft toothbrush. Dip the ring back into the solution, then rinse it in warm water several times to ensure all cleaning solution is completely gone.
✦ Drying
Set your ring on a soft, lint-free towel to dry, or gently pat it dry.
⚠️ Note: If you are cleaning your jewelry over an open sink drain, always use a strainer to prevent accidental drops!
